UofL to screen 鈥楪irl Rising,鈥 film depicting importance of education for girls worldwide

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. 鈥 The University of Louisville will offer three, free screenings of 鈥淕irl Rising,鈥 a new film about the power of educating girls for positive social change.

    Directed by Academy Award-nominated Richard Robbins, the film spotlights young women from Nepal, Peru, Haiti, Egypt, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, India and Cambodia as they overcome obstacles in pursuit of an education.

    Actresses Anne Hathaway, Kerry Washington, Meryl Streep, Salma Hayek, Cate Blanchett and Selena Gomez narrate the film. The film鈥檚 trailer can be viewed on .

    The PG-13-rated film is part of a social action campaign by to promote the need for educating girls worldwide. It runs 100 minutes and is recommended for people age13 and up.

    鈥淕irl Rising鈥 will be shown at UofL鈥檚 Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium, Belknap Campus, as follows:
