UofL fans going to Russell Athletic Bowl can help typhoon victims

    LOUISVILLE, Ky.鈥擝efore the University of Louisville football team faces the University of Miami Dec. 28 at the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando, fans from both teams can join forces for a good cause.

    From 9 a.m. to noon on game day, volunteers from Miami and Louisville will work together to assemble soap and shampoo kits for victims of typhoon Haiyan. Volunteers are expected to compile as many as 2,000 kits, which will then be shipped to the Philippines.

    The community service project will be at 400 Pittman St. in Orlando. It is being organized by , a nonprofit organization that recycles hotel amenities, in a dual effort to keep items out of landfills while also improving sanitation in areas of need.

    Up to 100 volunteers鈥50 from each university鈥攚ill participate in the project. UofL participants must sign up at by Dec. 23. Bus transportation will be provided to and from the site.

    Following a 28-year career as a radio and television reporter, Mark Hebert joined the University of Louisville as the Director of Media Relations in 2009, serving as the main spokesperson. In 2015, Mark was named Director of Programming and Production. He鈥檚 now producing and hosting a radio show about 鈥渁ll things UofL鈥, overseeing the university鈥檚 video and TV productions and promoting UofL鈥檚 research operation. Mark is best known for his 22 years as the political and investigative reporter for WHAS-TV in Louisville where he won numerous awards for breaking stories, exposing corruption and objectively covering Kentucky politics. In 2014, Mark was inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame.
