LOUISVILLE, Ky. 鈥 The Dr. Joseph McMillan National Conference on the Black Family in America is celebrating its 44th year as it convenes Feb. 24-25 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 2735 Crittenden Drive.
The keynote speaker Feb. 24 is award-winning author, Georgetown University professor and radio host Michael Eric Dyson. Dyson is the author of the new best-seller 鈥淭ears We Cannot Stop: A Sermon to White America鈥 and 2016鈥檚 鈥淭he Black Presidency: Barack Obama and the Politics of Race in America,鈥 among others.
Closing the conference Feb. 25 will be Ricky Jones, chair of UofL鈥檚 Pan-African Studies department, who will speak on the topic 鈥淲here Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?鈥
The theme of this year鈥檚 conference is 鈥淏ack to the Basics: Strengthening the Family and Community.鈥
McMillan, a UofL administrator for 30 years and a community activist, founded the conference, which was renamed in his honor in 2010.
