LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Dr. Joseph McMillan National Conference on the Black Family in America is celebrating its 44^th year as it convenes Feb. 24-25 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 2735 Crittenden Drive.

The keynote speaker Feb. 24 is award-winning author, Georgetown University professor and radio host Michael Eric Dyson. Dyson is the author of the new best-seller “Tears We Cannot Stop: A Sermon to White America” and 2016’s “The Black Presidency: Barack Obama and the Politics of Race in America,” among others.

Closing the conference Feb. 25 will be Ricky Jones, chair of UofL’s Pan-African Studies department, who will speak on the topic “Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?”

The theme of this year’s conference is “Back to the Basics: Strengthening the Family and Community.”

McMillan, a UofL administrator for 30 years and a community activist, founded the conference, which was renamed in his honor in 2010.
