Discussions focus on Louisville progress, Washington experience Speakers include Abramson, Wiederwohl, Wiser

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. 鈥 The University of Louisville鈥檚 urban and public affairs department is offering a lineup of speakers with expertise in local, state and national government as well as housing and community development.

    The Urban and Public Affairs Speaker Series鈥 free, public talks begin at noon in Room 123, Urban Studies Institute, 426 W. Bloom St. The spring events are:

    March 9 — 鈥淔rom West Louisville to the West Wing of the White House,鈥 Jerry Abramson, Bellarmine University executive in residence and former Louisville mayor, Kentucky lieutenant governor and intergovernmental affairs director for President Barack Obama.

    March 23 — 鈥淟ouisville Forward: Creating a Progressive Vision,鈥 Mary Ellen Wiederwohl, Louisville Forward chief for Louisville metro government.

    March 24 鈥 鈥淗ow Entrepreneurs Regenerate Neighborhoods,鈥 Lyle Sussman, UofL management professor and author, and Tom O鈥橲hea, restaurateur.

    March 30 鈥 鈥淪ection 8 Is Not a Monster: Norton Commons Will Continue to Prosper,鈥 Paul Dries, UofL urban and public affairs doctoral alumnus.

    April聽6 鈥 鈥淢issed Opportunities: How Lost and Unbuilt Projects Could Make Louisville Great Again,鈥 Steve Wiser, architect, historian and author.

    April 27 鈥 鈥淟eadership Is An Art and Science,鈥 Cynthia Knapek, Leadership Louisville Center president.
