LOUISVILLE, Ky.鈥擜 conference to raise awareness about human trafficking is scheduled at the University of Louisville next month.
鈥淢odern Day Slavery: Breaking the Chains鈥 will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Red Barn on Belknap Campus. The Women 4 Women student chapter and UofL Women鈥檚 Center are organizing the event.
Money raised through ticket sales will support a summer service learning trip to Peru, where UofL students and employees will meet with women who are survivors of sexual violence and human trafficking.
Conference speakers will include Theresa Flores, a child sex trafficking survivor, and Colleen Clines, director of the Anchal Project, a non-profit group that works to empower marginalized and exploited women in India. Anchal Project and Global Initiatives products will be on sale at the event.
Tickets, which are $15 for members of the general public and UofL employees and $7.50 for UofL students, can be purchased online at . Tables of eight are available.
The Women鈥檚 Center also is accepting donations for a silent auction at the event.
