Annual Kentucky Women鈥檚 Book Festival brings together readers, writers

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. 鈥 The 11th annual will feature authors from a wide variety of genres March 4 on University of Louisville鈥檚 Belknap Campus.

    The festival鈥檚 opening speaker is , author of the bestselling memoir听鈥淭he Unbreakable Child鈥 and the novel 鈥淕odPretty in the Tobacco Field.鈥

    , journalist and food writer, will present the luncheon keynote about her most recent travelogue cookbook, 鈥: An Appalachian Journey, with Recipes.鈥

    听听听听听听听听听听听 Mixologist Joy Perrine and food writer Susan Reigler will discuss their latest collaboration 鈥.鈥 Afterward, festival goers will sample drinks and dishes from the book in a 4 p.m. closing reception at the University Club.

    Other participants include:

    • , young adult and children鈥檚 fiction writer;
    • , poet and associate program director of Spalding University鈥檚 Master of Fine Arts in Writing Program;
    • , fiction writer, poet and UofL graduate;
    • , businesswoman, artist and poet;
    • , freelance journalist and children鈥檚 book author;
    • , illustrator of 17 children鈥檚 picture books; and
    • , attorney and poet.

    Festival sessions and presentations are free, except for an optional $10 lunch, but attendees are asked to register . The festival begins at 9:30 a.m. with coffee and conversation and the opening session begins at 10 a.m. in the Chao Auditorium of Ekstrom Library. Luncheon registration is required by March 1; call the UofL Women鈥檚 Center at 502-852-8976 to register and for more information. The Women鈥檚 Center and University Libraries host the event, which is part of the university鈥檚 observance of Women鈥檚 History Month.

    Niki King Jones is positive she has the best job at the University of Louisville, serving the communication needs of the departments of fine arts and theatre, the School of Music, University Libraries and Alumni 鈥 all the fun, creative stuff. Before coming to UofL in 2015, Niki held communication positions in both private and nonprofit sectors in Louisville, Ky., including at Heaven Hill Distilleries and the Jewish Community of Louisville. For 10 years prior, she was a reporter at various newspapers across the country, most recently The Courier-Journal. Niki graduated from the University of Memphis with a BA in journalism and has a masters degree in community and leadership development from the University of Kentucky.
