Teaching children about proper oral health, eliminating tooth pain and providing new smiles are benefits of the Smile Kentucky! program, a community partnership that tackles what the U.S. Surgeon General has called the No. 1 most common, chronic childhood disease--tooth decay.

Organizers of a Feb. 28 event at UofL hope the public will plug into and transmit new ideas about interconnectedness.

Every year, students submit nominations for UofL’s list of Faculty Favorites. All faculty, staff and graduate teaching assistants who receive nominations receive a formal letter of recognition from the Provost as well as a certificate, and are also invited to the annual Faculty Favorite Reception.

The University of Louisville’s Board of Trustees today voted to extend an existing contract with Siemens Industry Inc. that has saved UofL $12.9 million in energy costs in six years.

UofL has received its largest gift ever to a program that helps low-income students pay for college. Drs. Robert and Joyce Hughes announced Feb. 5 that they are donating $1.5 million to the Cardinal Covenant program.

University of Louisville Executive Vice President and Provost Shirley Willihnganz is stepping down from that position at the end of the academic year.

The University of Louisville Foundation Board of Directors has elected Dr. Robert Hughes as chairman. Hughes is a family physician and managing partner of Primary Care Medical Center in Murray, Ky. He also chairs the University of Louisville Board of Trustees.

The University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky are partnering to purchase scientific supplies—a move that will save thousands of dollars per year on items such as gloves, pipette tips, centrifuges and upright freezers.

President James Ramsey honored 20 staff members Jan. 30 for their hard work, dedication to students and the university, leadership and public service at the annual Outstanding Performance Awards reception. Also this year, the first Supervisor of the Year was honored.
