  1. UofL hosts over 400 student organizations that cover a wide variety of student interests. These groups provide a wonderful opportunity to become involved in campus life and to connect with other students on campus who enjoy some of the same things you do. Find the list of contacts on the.
  2. The Student Recreation Center (SRC) offers the latest fitness facilities and equipment, complete with basketball and racquetball courts. Campus Recreation also offers activities ranging from group fitness classes to competitive intramural sports to sport clubs.
  3. The Cultural Center supports and offers programs that acknowledge and reflect the experiences of underrepresented populations. It also provides educational opportunities for all members of the campus community to examine their individual and group experiences within a culturally diverse society.

The Cardinal Station and Health Sciences Center (HSC) Campus Health Services (CHS) offices provide basic primary care including physical exams, immunizations, allergy shots, travel medicine, flu and COVID-19 shots, sexual health and contraception and more. CHS has an insurance advocate who assists students enrolled in the UofL student health insurance program.

The Center for Engaged Learning (CEL) is an on-campus resource for UofL, the community and industry partners that helps Cardinals better prepare for academic and success.

There are plenty of opportunities around campus for those craving a fright, or for those simply wanting a delight.

Tonight, all graduate students are invited to the Graduate Student Council’s Halloween Party at 8 p.m. at Hopcat, 1064 Bardstown Rd. This event includes free food and a costume contest with prizes.

The Student Activities Board is hosting the classic fright film, “Dawn of the Dead” on Saturday beginning with a 2 p.m. showing at The Floyd Theater. The movie follows a growing epidemic of zombies that have risen from the dead.

On Saturday, the Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium is hosting its Fright Light Halloween Party from 1-4 p.m. Cost is $5 per person and includes treats for the kids and a laser music show featuring songs such as the “Monster Mash,” “Purple People Eaters” and more. Showtimes are 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Other activities run from 1-3:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Oct. 29, go trick or treating with the Greeks. The fraternity and sorority life community at UofL invites all faculty, staff and students to bring their children to a safe and fun Halloween extravaganza from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Community Park. The event will include food and trick or treating along Greek Row.

Join the University Writing Center and the White Squirrel Literary & Arts Magazine on Halloween night, Tuesday, from 7-8:30 p.m. for an evening of scary stories. This is an “open mic” event in Ekstrom Library’s University Writing Center (first floor), so bring your favorite and original scary stories and poems to share. Costumes are welcome, and candy will be provided. There will also be a six-word scary story contest with a prize.

Also on Oct. 31, the University Symphony Orchestra will host its Halloween Spooktacular. The concert, at 8 p.m. in Comstock Hall, will be directed by Kimcherie Lloyd,and will include a variety of spooky song favorites.

Finally, show off your jack-o-lantern carving/decorating skills for a chance to win a prize. Submissions can be made either by using the hashtag #Cardoween on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, or by emailing photos to ultoday@louisville.edu.

The center’s HSC office is now located in K-Wing, Room 2028 and is open for appointments on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The University Writing Center works with all members of the UofL community – students, faculty, and staff – to improve their writing. Writing Center consultants provide one-on-one consultations that help writers address concerns about their drafts and provide strategies for improving writing skills. Consultants work with writers at any point in the writing process, from planning and organization to revision.

At the HSC office, consultants work with writers on science and technical writing, including research articles, grant proposals and dissertation chapters and proposals, as well as IRB applications and other professional and scholarly work. Consultants can help writers with personal statements, job letters, CVs and other genres of writing. The Writing Center is not an editing service, but works with writers to offer responses to their drafts and suggestions for revision.

To make an appointment through the online scheduling system, visit the using your UofL user name and password, and click on “Appointments.” To make an appointment in our HSC location, select that schedule in the drop-down menu at the top of the schedule page. You also are welcome to make appointments at the Belknap Campus’ Ekstrom Library location.

In addition to consultations, the University Writing Center offers workshops on writing through courses, campus organizations and online. You also will find handouts and videos about common student writing issues and answers to common writing questions.
