The University of Louisville鈥檚 won 11 awards at the 40th Annual 成人直播al Advertising Awards, announced March 7, 2025. The largest awards competition of its kind, the judges the creativity, marketing execution and message impact of advertising campaigns from colleges, universities and secondary schools across the country. More than 1,000 institutions from all 50 states and numerous nations submitted over 2,000 entries this year.

Here & Beyond was a big winner in this year鈥檚 competition, taking home several gold, silver and bronze designations. and IGNITE research magazine each secured gold, while digital components such as social media content and video advertisements collected silver and bronze.

The campaign debuted in January 2022 after a multi-year creative development process that involved input from thousands of students, faculty, staff, alumni and Kentuckians across the commonwealth. UofL鈥檚 Office of Communication and Marketing collaborated with several partners to bring the project to life including the university鈥檚 creative agency, BVK. Alumnus Connor May 鈥16 composed and performed the signature anthem heard throughout the campaign.

Through collaboration and creativity 鈥 both here and beyond 鈥 UofL continues to prove that when Cardinals work together, there is nothing they cannot achieve.

Now, the university is furthering that message past our campus borders. Here & Beyond, UofL鈥檚 newest advertising campaign debuted Jan. 17 with a and national advertising presence.

鈥淭he Here & Beyond campaign is the culmination of a multi-year effort to evolve the university鈥檚 brand, getting to the core of who Cardinals are, what we do and why it matters,鈥 said Interim President Lori Gonzalez.聽 鈥淭he campaign is especially critical in challenging times like these to celebrate the university鈥檚 progress and distinctiveness, and to highlight the brand attributes 鈥 including resilience, passion and innovation 鈥 that help us create thriving futures for our students, our community and our society鈥

After extensive research with input from thousands of students, faculty, staff, alumni and Kentuckians, the university centered its campaign around showing UofL鈥檚 impact in student success, research and innovation and connection with local and global communities. That message blends together with a striking new look for the campaign, which can be seen in national television commercials, billboards, digital advertising and more.

More than 200 students, faculty, staff and alumni participated in brand video and photo shoots last fall, in front of the cameras and behind the scenes. Throughout the year, stories of the Cardinals featured in our brand anthem and advertising materials will be available on the Cardinals like Andrea Behrman, professor of neurological surgery, a leader in the field of pediatric spinal cord research, or Lexi Raikes, a first-generation student and triple major who is Kentucky鈥檚 only 2022 Truman Scholar, or alum Connor May 鈥16, a trumpet player who composed the music for the campaign.

鈥淲e know that people want to engage with brands that stand for something. Here & Beyond amplifies our efforts to improve lives through education, research and community service, and it illustrates those efforts through our people,鈥 said Kim Butterweck, executive director of brand and marketing for the Office of Communications and Marketing. 聽鈥淚t鈥檚 our people who power our progress.鈥

UofL worked with multiple partners to bring the campaign to life, including the university鈥檚 creative agency, BVK, along with聽their聽production partners including Quriosity Productions, Sheldon Candis, Finn O’Hara, Natalie Faye, Nimble Content and May, the composer.
