The appointment is effective July 1, 2018.

Boland has served as assistant dean of resident education and work environment in the Office of Graduate Medical 成人直播 at the UofL medical school since August 2016. Additionally, she holds the positions of executive vice chair of pediatrics, associate director of pediatric residency training and professor in the UofL Department of Pediatrics. Board-certified in pediatrics, Boland is a pediatric hospitalist with and .

鈥淜im Boland is an outstanding clinician educator, scholar and leader,鈥 Ganzel said. 鈥淪he is well positioned to lead the Department of Pediatrics now and into the future.鈥

In addition to overseeing the pediatric residency program for nine years as program director, Boland oversaw nine pediatric fellowship programs at UofL. She assisted in the creation of the department鈥檚 Development and Behavioral Fellowship, Pediatric Child Abuse Fellowship, Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship, Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship and Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Fellowship. She also serves the university on the Promotion Appointment and Tenure Committee and the School of Medicine Wellness Committee.

She is a past recipient of the Paul Weber Award, the School of Medicine Master Educator Award and Dean鈥檚 Educator Award for Distinguished Teaching, along with five clinical teaching awards and seven faculty peer-mentoring awards.

Boland was named a fellow of the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program鈥檚 2017-18 class. ELAM is a yearlong fellowship for women faculty in schools of medicine, dentistry and public health and provides training and experiential learning to help expand the national pool of qualified women candidates for executive positions in the academic health sciences.

She also is immediate past chair of the Association of Pediatric Program Directors鈥 Mid-America Region and a member of its Curriculum Task Force and a past president of both the Kentucky Pediatric Foundation and the Kentucky Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

A聽Louisville native, Boland earned her undergraduate degree from Notre Dame University and her medical degree from UofL. She completed her residency and chief residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric critical care at St. Louis Children鈥檚 Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis.

Boland succeeds Charles Woods, MD, who has been named pediatrics chair at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga and Children鈥檚 Hospital at Erlanger after serving at UofL for 12 years. 鈥淲e thank Dr. Woods for his many years of service and leadership at the School of Medicine and wish him well in his new position,鈥 Ganzel said.

UofL associate dean selected for executive leadership program in medical education /post/uofltoday/uofl-associate-dean-selected-for-executive-leadership-program-in-medical-education/ /post/uofltoday/uofl-associate-dean-selected-for-executive-leadership-program-in-medical-education/#respond Mon, 23 May 2016 19:39:37 +0000 http://uoflnews.com/?p=30519 Amy Holthouser, MD, UofL’s associate聽dean for medical education and an associate professor of medicine and pediatrics, has been selected as a member of the 2016-2017 class of the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine Program (). Holthouser is one of only 54 women in the nation selected for the program.

ELAM聽is a year-long fellowship聽for women faculty in schools of medicine, dentistry and public health in which they develop professional and personal skills required for leadership and management in health care. More than 900 ELAM alumnae hold leadership positions in institutions around the world.

Holthouser oversees the design and implementation of the MD program curriculum. She also leads the steering committee for the eQuality Project at UofL, a national pilot initiative to integrate competencies published by the Association of American Medical Colleges related to provision of care for LGBT and DSD individuals into the school of medicine curriculum. Holthouser was a primary investigator on a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant to develop a required palliative care educational experience for medical students, and co-investigator on iCOPE, a five-year NIH grant funding the development of an interdisciplinary palliative care curriculum to improve the care of cancer patients.

Among her 24 teaching awards at the university and school of medicine level, Holthouser has received the American College of Physicians Outstanding Faculty Award and twice won the American Medical Women鈥檚 Association Gender Equity Award. The Louisville native is an alumna of the UofL School of Medicine where she also completed her residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics. In addition to her academic duties, Holthouser practices as a pediatric hospitalist at Kosair Children鈥檚 Hospital.

In ELAM鈥檚 21-year history, 17 faculty members from UofL have completed the fellowship. Toni Ganzel, MD, MBA, dean of the UofL School of Medicine, is among UofL鈥檚 ELAM alumnae, and Diane Harper, MD, MPH, MS, chair of the Department of Family and Geriatric Medicine, was part of the 2015-2016 class.
