Music and film come together Friday at the University of Louisville when Louisville-based band Ut Gret perform an original score to accompany the 1925 silent film 鈥淭he Lost World.鈥
The film will be shown at 8 p.m. Friday, March 4,听in The Floyd Theatre on the third floor of the Swain Student Activities Center,听 2100 South Floyd Street.听 Free parking is available in the Red Barn parking lot, accessible from Cardinal Boulevard.听 The event is free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by UofL鈥檚 Student Activities Board.
This is sixth in a series of improvisational scores Ut Gret has set to silent films featured at the Floyd Theatre. A working band for more than 35 years, Ut Gret has been based in Louisville for the last two-and-a-half decades. The band blends elements of jazz, pop and avant-garde music.
鈥溾 is based on the 1912 novel of the same name by Arthur Conan Doyle and tells the story of scientists in search of a land where dinosaurs still exist. Stop-motion pioneer Willis O鈥橞rien was the lead animator on 鈥淭he Lost World鈥 and later used the film as his basis for work on 鈥淜ing Kong.鈥澨 In 1998 the Library of Congress added the film to the National film registry due to its significance.
