LOUISVILLE, Ky. 鈥 The University of Louisville has moved up to 61th place on a Sierra Club list of the Top 100 green schools in America, a big leap from its spot at 92nd last year.
Schools are ranked on the club鈥檚 鈥淐ool Schools鈥 list based on their answers to an 11-page questionnaire about energy use and efficiency, waste management, food, academics, purchasing, transportation, administration and other areas of sustainability.
UofL was the only Kentucky school to make the list, which was compiled after about 900 colleges and universities were invited to take the survey.
UofL earned 68 points out of a possible 100, compared to the highest-scoring school, Green Mountain College in Vermont, which earned 88.6 points. No school earned a perfect score.
Last October, UofL earned a B+ on a report card issued by the Sustainable Endowments Institute, a non-profit organization that monitors sustainability at colleges and universities, tying with Berea College as Kentucky鈥檚 top 鈥済reen鈥 school.
