LOUISVILLE, Ky. 鈥 The University of Louisville has won a $580,000 federal grant to expand training for cybersecurity specialists.

The grant, from the U.S. National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security, will support two interdisciplinary programs among three schools: the J.B. Speed School of Engineering, the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Business.

One program will teach cybersecurity measures to public safety employees and another will use common off-the-shelf hardware and software to design new cybersecurity teaching methods.

The programs are an extension of the University of Louisville Cyber Security Initiative. In 2014, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency designated UofL as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense 成人直播 (CAE-CDE); that designation was recently extended through 2019.

The NSA鈥檚 is intended to broaden the nation鈥檚 pool of skilled workers capable of supporting a cyber-secure nation. UofL and Northern Kentucky University are the only higher education institutions in Kentucky that have received the certification.

鈥淲e are all geared up to enhance our cybersecurity education offering and help fill the skills gap in this area of national priority,鈥 said Adel Elmaghraby, professor and chair of the Speed School鈥檚 computer engineering and computer science departments and principal investigator.
