LOUISVILLE, Ky. 鈥 Purdue University bioarchaeologist Michele Buzon will talk about her research in the ancient Nile Valley during a free, public lecture March 19 at the University of Louisville.
UofL鈥檚 history and anthropology departments and the Archaeological Institute of America鈥檚 Kentucky Society are sponsoring the archaeology lecture as part of a series. The talk on 鈥淟ife and Death along the Nile: Tales from the Tombs of Tombos,鈥 will begin at 6 p.m. at UofL鈥檚 Center for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage, 1606 Rowan St., in Portland.
The anthropology professor will discuss her ongoing fieldwork at Tombos, an archaeological site in northern Sudan where a colonial community was established during expansion of the New Kingdom Egyptian Empire into Nubia. She will discuss how analysis of burials there yields examples of how a rich archaeological record can be used to understand past societies.
