LOUISVILLE, Ky. 鈥 A free, public conference March 26 will focus on 鈥淓mpowerment: Building a Brighter Future for Young Males.鈥
The University of Louisville’s Kent School of Social Work is sponsoring the event with Canaan Community Development Corp., which runs an after-school program for young males.
The Saturday morning event is about learning life-improvement skills. The sessions are open to all and geared to boys 9-18 and adults such as educators, counselors and parents interested in their healthy development.
The conference will run from 9 a.m. to noon at Myers Middle School, 3741 Pulliam Drive off Klondike Lane. There is no registration.
Social work students organized the annual workshop, which features local African American men as speakers and role models.
Topics will include hygiene and grooming habits, healthy friendships, relationship boundaries, respect and civility. Other sessions include 鈥淛ust Because It Looks Fun,鈥 鈥淧arents Just Don’t Understand鈥 and 鈥淗ow to Parent Effectively.鈥
