Annual Kentucky Women鈥檚 Book Festival brings together readers, writers

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. 鈥 The 14th annual will feature authors from a wide variety of genres March 7 on University of Louisville鈥檚 Belknap Campus.

    The festival鈥檚 opening speaker is Kaila Story. Story is an associate professor of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, with a joint appointment in the Department of Pan-African Studies. She holds the Audre Lorde Chair in Race, Class, Gender and Sexuality Studies. She co-hosts an award-winning podcast on WFPL called 鈥淪trange Fruit: Musings on Politics, Pop Culture and Black Gay Life.鈥澛

    , a young adult fiction writer from Bowling Green, Kentucky,聽will present the luncheon keynote. Her newest book, set for release March 3, is 鈥淭he June Boys.鈥

    Other speakers include:

    • , who holds a BA聽and an聽MA and is working on her PhD from UofL. She is a poet, spoken word artist and founder of Honey Tree Publishing.
    • writer, editor and former columnist at The Courier-Journal.
    • Kimberly Garts Crum and Bonnie Omer Johnson, editors of 鈥.鈥

    Following the festival, from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m., , former president of , a local women鈥檚 writers鈥 group, will present the workshop 鈥淭op Tips to Improve Your Writing.鈥

    The festival begins at 9 a.m. with coffee and conversation, and the opening session begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Brandeis School of Law. Festival sessions and presentations are free, but participants are asked to register to guarantee their space.聽An $11 optional lunch is available for purchase by contacting the Women鈥檚 Center at 502-852-8976 or womenctr@louisville.edu by Feb. 28.

    The Women鈥檚 Center and Brandeis School of Law host the event, which is part of the university鈥檚 observance of Women鈥檚 History Month.

    Niki King Jones is positive she has the best job at the University of Louisville, serving the communication needs of the departments of fine arts and theatre, the School of Music, University Libraries and Alumni 鈥 all the fun, creative stuff.
