Annual Kentucky Women鈥檚 Book Festival brings together readers, writers

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. 鈥 The 13th annual will feature authors from a wide variety of genres March 2 on University of Louisville鈥檚 Belknap Campus.

    The festival鈥檚 opening speaker is , a Louisville-based author, poet, spoken word artist and activist. Drake is the author of several works of poetry, two novels and a collection of commentaries on race and feminism.

    , a lecturer, editor and writer, will present the luncheon keynote. Her most recent book is 鈥Irrepressible: The Jazz Age Life of Henrietta Bingham.鈥

    Other speakers include:

    • , author of 鈥淪ame-Sexy Marriage: A Novella in Poems鈥
    • , author of 鈥淢egafauna: Stories and Screenplay鈥
    • , author of 鈥淭he Cruel Radiance of What Is: Selected and New Poems鈥
    • Mehwish Zaminkhan and Atalya Lawler, co-authors of
    • , publisher and author of 鈥淔rom Author to Entrepreneur: How to turn your Book into a Business鈥
    • Following the festival, from 1:30-2:15 p.m., , a local women鈥檚 writers鈥 group, will present the workshop 鈥淪cene Development.鈥 Cheri Powell, a writing, editing and publishing professional, will facilitate.

    The festival begins at 9 a.m. with coffee and conversation and the opening session begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Brandeis School of Law. Festival sessions and presentations are free but participants are asked to register to guarantee their space.聽An optional lunch is available for purchase by calling the Women鈥檚 Center at 502-852-8976 by Feb. 26.

    The Women鈥檚 Center and Brandeis School of Law host the event, which is part of the university鈥檚 observance of Women鈥檚 History Month.

    Niki King Jones is positive she has the best job at the University of Louisville, serving the communication needs of the departments of fine arts and theatre, the School of Music, University Libraries and Alumni 鈥 all the fun, creative stuff. Before coming to UofL in 2015, Niki held communication positions in both private and nonprofit sectors in Louisville, Ky., including at Heaven Hill Distilleries and the Jewish Community of Louisville.
