UofL has been named a 鈥渕ilitary friendly鈥 school for 10 years in a row.

In Louisville and around the world, roughly 1,500 veterans or those with direct ties to the military call themselves Cardinals. UofL provides these students with benefits, resources and a welcoming campus.

鈥淸UofL] offers a great discount for military personnel as well as allowing us to intermingle with the other students on campus,鈥 said Jayelyn Lewis, a cadet in the Army ROTC and graduate student. 鈥淵ou don鈥檛 feel like an outcast as a veteran, you feel like you fit right in with the students.鈥

Active duty military take classes at UofL鈥檚 Fort Knox campus while others around the world seek UofL degrees online.

鈥淪ome of them are pursuing an education because it helps them in their military service with promotion and advancement,鈥 said UofL鈥檚 Director of Military Initiatives, Kyle Hurwitz. 鈥淪ome of them are pursuing an education because they are cognizant that a degree will help them once they get out of the military.鈥

UofL, which has been named a 鈥渕ilitary friendly鈥 school for 10 years in a row, offers veterans $250 per credit hour, meaning they can obtain their degrees almost for free.

鈥淚 think UofL does an outstanding job of [welcoming veterans], and they do more than enough,鈥 said Spraggins. 鈥淚 appreciate the support UofL has given veterans.鈥
