UofL senior Philip Dennison has received a David L. Boren Scholarship to study Russian in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Dennison, a French and political science double major at UofL鈥檚 College of Arts and Sciences, also was awarded a from the California-based School of Russian and Asian Studies, which provides him with a stipend for publishing short essays on cultural events and his own local experiences while abroad.

Boren Scholarships are funded by the National Security 成人直播 Program, which聽focuses on geographic areas, languages and fields of study deemed critical to U.S. national security. Students who study abroad through the program are required to work at least one year with the federal government.

鈥淪tudying abroad in Kyrgyzstan represents a once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunity. I am equally excited about fulfilling the year of government service once I graduate,鈥 said Dennison.聽 鈥淭he Boren Scholarship gives me the opportunity to study an area that fascinates me then apply that knowledge in service to my country.鈥

A 2007 graduate of Christian Academy of Louisville, Dennison is the son of Pamela Rogers and Ralph Dennison of Louisville.
