McConnell, a 1964 graduate of UofL, serves as the Senate Majority Leader in the U. S. Senate.
A native of Elizabethtown, Cameron earned a spot in UofL鈥檚 when he was still a student at John Hardin High School. The scholars program gave Cameron a chance to spend some time with the senator and other policy leaders.
鈥淲hen I first met him, I knew he was somebody I wanted to emulate. I have held him in high regard since the first time I met him,鈥 Cameron said.
During his time at UofL, Cameron also was a Cardinal football player and Harlan Scholar and participated in the law school鈥檚 most prestigious student activities鈥攖he Moot Court Board, Law Review and Student Bar Association.
He has twice served as a student intern for McConnell. His second internship was under the wing of then-Legal Counsel Russell Coleman.
After graduating cum laude from Brandeis, Cameron clerked for a federal judge and then took a position in the Louisville office of the law firm Stites & Harbison PLLC, where he spent a little over a year before the job offer came from McConnell鈥檚 office.
鈥淚 was taken aback by the opportunity to work for the majority leader of the U.S. Senate. I was surprised and humbled and honored all at the same time. I will be forever grateful that he extended this opportunity to me,鈥 Cameron said.
In addition to McConnell and Cameron, other UofL graduates in the senator鈥檚 office include: Robert Steurer, communications director; Stephanie Penn, press secretary; Tim Thomas, field representative; and Amanda Lawrence and Erin Palmer, constituent service representatives.
