The top four faculty members to receive the most nominations were recognized through announcements in UofL Today as well as a banner displayed in front of Ekstrom Library. The “Top 4” for the 2013-2014 year are Roman Yampolskiy (Speed), Raymond Chastain (A&S), Doug Lorenz (Public Health) and Christy Burge (Business). These four, along with all other nominees, were honored Feb. 6 at the Celebration of Teaching & Learning on Shelby Campus.

Meet three of the nominees in these short videos:

• Watch this , who teaches bioinformatics and biostatistics in the School of Public Health and Information Sciences. He was described by his students as “AMAZING,” “super funny and one of our most approachable professors” and “hands down one of the best professors I’ve ever had at UofL.” One student described spontaneous applause for Lorenz at semester’s end: “I think it says a lot about a professor when 40 would-be strangers find it necessary to applaud the person that took them down the never-ending wormhole that is biostatistics.”
• of Raymond Chastain, a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences. “Working third shift is a struggle, and it may be hard to concentrate in class sometimes, but I never wanted to miss a physics class because it was the best class I had ever taken,” one student said. Another said, “Professor Chastain will be one I will never forget just because he made me want to learn, without him knowing it.”
• Meet Roman Yampolskiy, a computer engineering/computer science professor in the J.B. Speed School of Engineering. of Professor Yampolskiy, who was described as “awesome,” “fantastic,” “approachable” and “flexible.” One student said, “His class makes me want to explore technological communications even further.”
