Its show, 鈥淢etamorphosis: Fantasy or Reality,鈥 will be in Thrust Theater, 2314 S. Floyd St. Ticket sales will benefit UofL鈥檚 African American Theatre Program (AATP).
The troupe explores how dance and movement can create energy in its student- and faculty-choreographed shows. Director Brian Martin, an ASU theater professor, is an AATP alumnus.
鈥淭he energy in this group鈥檚 performance comes from an intense passion for dance,鈥 said Deana Thomas, AATP director. 鈥淭heir fast-paced rhythms are combined with slow, lyrical movements to showcase their diverse styles and creativity.鈥
The event is part of a kickoff celebration to mark the AATP鈥檚 20th anniversary season.
Since the program launched in 1993, AATP has produced nine premieres, performed in South Africa and China and made multiple appearances in the United States. UofL鈥檚 program is the nation鈥檚 only university African American program to be fully integrated into the theater arts curriculum; it offers a graduate certificate in African American theater.
