The College of Arts and Sciences’ Meet the Professors series highlights the college’s research and cultural offerings during the first Thursdays of most months at the University Club. This spring there will be an additional evening lecture at 6 p.m. March 29.

Talks will begin at noon unless otherwise indicated. Reservations are required, with $14 meal payment in cash or check. To reserve a spot, contact Janna Tajibaeva at 502-852-2247 or no later than the Monday before each event. Here’s the schedule:

• Jan. 12: “The Living Shakespeare: A View from the Stage,” Rinda Frye, theater arts chair and professor. She will discuss why Shakespeare’s plays remain popular today and why she finds producing those plays is like collaborating with a living artist.
• Feb. 2: “Changing Bodies and Lifestyles: Lessons from the Immune System,” Fabian Crespo, anthropology professor. He will talk about how the human immune system has evolved and continues to do so, and will examine the role of infectious diseases in shaping immune responses.
• March 1: “What Makes A Great City? Looking at the World from Louisville,” Hank Savitch, Brown and Williamson distinguished professor of urban and public affairs. He will discuss his “4 Cs” – currency, cosmopolitanism, concentration and charisma – and rank Louisville in those crucial areas.
• March 29 (6 p.m.): “The Prince of Evolution: Peter Kropotkin’s Adventures in Science and Politics,” Lee Dugatkin, biology professor and author. Dugatkin will discuss the Russian prince, the topic of his recently published book, and how his law of mutual aid applies today.

April 5: “From Brown to Meredith: Remembering the Struggle for School Desegregation,” Tracy K’Meyer, history chair and Oral History Center co-director. Drawing from more than 100 oral history interviews with local people, she will recount the story of desegregation in Louisville and Jefferson County Public Schools and discuss how public memory influences the next steps.
