Aegis, the UofL Hite Art Institute’s graduate student organization, presents the symposium in conjunction with the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft. It takes place at , 715 W. Main St., Louisville.

Keynote speaker Lydia Matthews, from Parsons New School for Design in New York City, will present “Craft Matters: Exchanging Knowledge in the Wake of Globalization” at 4:30 p.m. The symposium starts at 9:30 a.m. and will include these presentation topics:

  • Traditional and Modern Bilum in Papua New Guinea: A Shift from Bodily Extension to Cultural Bridge
  • Why Clay: Material as Experience
  • Wallace Mitchell and the Challenge of Craft
  • Haptic Rainbow: Installing Craft in the Work of Gabriel Dawe
  • More is Less: The Domestic Sublime in Liza Lou’s Kitchen

An exhibit and lecture reception follow the symposium from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free. .
