鈥淭he University of Louisville is such an important part of this community that I鈥檓 just grateful to be a small part of supporting it,鈥 Swope said at the time.
Swope graduated from Ohio State University and moved to Elizabethtown in 1951. He built a large, successful dealership there before moving to Louisville in 1961 and developing Sam Swope Auto Group.
鈥淭his is a generous gift from a generous man鈥 Ramsey said.听 鈥淪am鈥檚 love for UofL and the people of Louisville clearly knows no bounds.鈥
Swope has been a strong supporter of Kosair Charities, Boy Scouts, Masonic Homes and other Louisville-area nonprofit groups.听
His $1 million gift to UofL is undesignated and the university will spend it on top priorities.
