Coontz鈥檚 free, public talk is 鈥淔rom the Feminine Mystique to the Supermom Syndrome: Women, Work, Marriage and Motherhood from WWII to the Present.鈥

听听听听听听听听听听 Her lecture will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Floyd Theater, Swain Student Activities Center, with a reception afterward. Coontz鈥檚 talk is the annual Minx Auerbach lecture in women鈥檚 and gender studies, which UofL鈥檚 women鈥檚 and gender studies department sponsors during Women鈥檚 History Month.

听听听听听听听听听听听 Coontz teaches history and family studies at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash., and is director of research and public education for the Council on Contemporary Families.

听听听听听听听听听听听 She wrote 鈥淎 Strange Stirring: The Feminine Mystique and American Women at the Dawn of听 the 1960s鈥 and 鈥淢arriage, A History: From Obedience to Intimacy, or How Love Conquered Marriage.鈥 Other books include 鈥淭he Way We Never Were: American Families and the Nostalgia Trap,鈥 鈥淭he Way We Really Are: Coming to Terms with America鈥檚 Changing Families鈥 and 鈥淭he Social Origins of Private Life: A History of American Families.鈥

听听听听听听听听听听听 She earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in history from University of California-Berkeley and master鈥檚 degree in European history from University of Washington.
