
Literary scholars, critics and writers from around the world are expected at UofL for the Feb. 18-20 Louisville Conference on Literature and Culture Since 1900.
UofL’s English and classical and modern languages departments sponsor the annual conference. Keynote addresses listed below are free and public; those speakers are:
–Rodrigo Toscano, playwright, labor activist and author of several poetry collections including 鈥淒eck of Deeds,鈥 鈥淧artisans鈥 and the performance piece 鈥淐ollapsible Poetics Theater.鈥 He will read from his work at 11 a.m. Feb. 18 in Chao Auditorium, Ekstrom Library.
–Johanna Drucker, book artist and University of California-Los Angeles professor of bibliographical studies. Her talk, 鈥淥ther Others: Literature After Language,鈥 will begin at 5 p.m. Feb. 18 in Chao Auditorium, Ekstrom Library.
–Nick Greer, San Francisco writer and winner of UofL鈥檚 2015 Calvino Prize, will read from his winning work, 鈥淕lass City,鈥 at 11 a.m. Feb. 19 in Bingham Poetry Room, Ekstrom Library.
–Debra Castillo, Cornell University professor of Hispanic studies and comparative literature and past president of the International Latin American Studies Association. She will give her keynote talk, 鈥淣et art, arte util and Theory 2.0,鈥 at 3:15 p.m. Feb. 19 in Chao Auditorium, Ekstrom Library.
–Mat Johnson, University of Houston creative writing professor and prize-winning author of novels 鈥淟oving Day,鈥 鈥淧ym,鈥 鈥淗unting in Harlem,鈥 鈥淒rop,鈥 鈥淩ight State鈥 and 鈥淒ark Rain.鈥 He will read from his work at 5 p.m. Feb. 19 in Room 102, Strickler Hall.
–Lisa Gitelman, media historian and New York University English professor and department chair of media, culture and communication. She will talk about 鈥溾橢moji Dick鈥 and the Eponymous Whale鈥 at 5 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Cressman Center for Visual Arts, 100 E. Main St.
–Also, Nathaniel Mackey, Duke University creative writing professor and Bollingen Prize-winning poet, will read from his work at 10 p.m. Feb. 19 in the Brown Hotel鈥檚 Secretariat B Room in an event sponsored by Lute & Drum Press.
