The free, public discussion of 鈥淧ost-Civil Rights, Post-Race, Post-Struggle: American Political Progress and the Black Community鈥 will begin at 11 a.m. at the DuValle 成人直播 Center, 3610 Bohne Ave., in western Louisville.
Ricky Jones, Pan-African studies department chair, will facilitate discussion by Phillip Bailey, WFPL political editor and 鈥淣oise & Notes鈥 host; Sadiqa Reynolds, Louisville Metro鈥檚 community building chief; and Roger Wilson, Jefferson County Clerk鈥檚 Office鈥檚 legal records director.
The program was renamed last year to honor former UofL Dean James Blaine Hudson, a longtime history and Pan-African studies faculty member and Saturday Academy leader who died Jan. 5, 2013. The program鈥檚 sessions on black history, culture and issues are geared to high school students and adults.
Other J. Blaine Hudson Saturday Academy sessions will be Feb. 22, March 22 and April 26. UofL鈥檚 Pan-African studies department manages the program in partnership with community organizations. The monthly sessions are part of Project Progress, a new UofL initiative examining the last five years of the U.S. civil rights movement (1963-1968); the Pan-African studies department coordinates that initiative with UofL鈥檚 Office of the Vice Provost for Diversity and International Affairs.
The DuValle 成人直播 Center is in the Park DuValle community, north of Algonquin Parkway at 35thStreet. Parking is in the lot behind the center, and guests should enter through the center鈥檚 back middle door.聽
