Directed by Academy Award-nominated Richard Robbins, the film spotlights young women from Nepal, Peru, Haiti, Egypt, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, India and Cambodia as they overcome obstacles in pursuit of an education.
Actresses Anne Hathaway, Kerry Washington, Meryl Streep, Salma Hayek, Cate Blanchett and Selena Gomez narrate the film. A trailer is on .
The PG-13-rated film is part of a social action campaign by to promote the need for educating girls worldwide.聽It runs 100 minutes and is recommended for people age 13 and up.
鈥淕irl Rising鈥 will be shown at UofL鈥檚 Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium, Belknap Campus, as these times:
- 12:15 p.m., March 21
- 6 p.m., March 22 (doors open at 5:30 p.m.聽and filmgoers may stay for the planetarium show, 鈥淥asis in Space,鈥 at 8 p.m. for a cost of $5)
- 3 p.m., March 24
