His free, public talk, “The Movement’s Outlaws: When the Civil Rights Movement Stood Up,” will begin at 3 p.m. in Room 139, Shumaker Research Building, on the Belknap Campus.

 Umoja, chair of Georgia State University’s African American studies department, will share research from his book “We Will Shoot Back: Armed Resistance in the Mississippi Freedom Movement.” He will sign book copies after his UofL talk.

 The Project Progress event, offered as part of the Pan-African studies department’s 40th anniversary celebration, was postponed from Feb. 5 because of weather. The five-year Project Progress initiative focuses on activities and the aftermath of the 1960s U.S. civil rights movement.
