Hamilton is a visual artist internationally recognized for the sensory surrounds of her large-scale multi-media installations.
Her recent work has been on exhibit at the Guggenheim, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, in San Francisco, and in Gwangju, Korea.
She is a distinguished professor of art at The Ohio State University.听
The Nora Iasigi Bullitt Memorial lecture is intended to celebrate the life and contributions of the artist, author and philanthropist. Born in Swampscott, Mass., in 1881, she was the daughter of Oscar Iasigi who had been consul general to the United States on behalf of the Ottoman Empire. She married William Marshall Bullitt, a Louisville native, who served as U.S. solicitor general.
A talented artist who was active in Louisville civic and art organizations, including serving as president of the Louisville Art Association, Nora donated her husband鈥檚 library of rare books and documents on mathematics to UofL after his death in 1957. The collection includes first-edition works by Isaac Newton and pamphlets by Albert Einstein.
The Bullitt family also endows a mathematics lecture and an astronomy lecture in William Marshall Bullitt鈥檚 name.
