During the event, Wise will discuss recent events in Ferguson, Missouri, in relation to race, white privilege and the public reaction. He will also discuss youth activism on racism in America.
Wise is the author of six books, including 鈥淒ear White America: Letter to a New Minority.鈥 His new book, 鈥淭he Culture of Cruelty: How America鈥檚 Elite Demonize the Poor, Valorize the Rich and Jeopardize the Future,鈥 will be released next year.
He appears regularly on CNN and MSNBC to discuss race issues.
His talk, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the multipurpose room at the Student Activities Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the talk begins at 6 p.m.
Attendees at Monday鈥檚 event will also have the opportunity to participate in a聽 photo shoot before and after the speech.
The talk is presented by the Engaging Issues committee of the Student Activities Board, the Pan African Studies department, Philosophy department and the Office of the Vice Provost of Diversity and International Affairs.
